In this newsreel the focus is on the expansion of the west side of the city of Amsterdam. The report consist of two parts: a historical overview and shots of the ceremony were the first pile for the housing complexes for the garden city Slotermeer is driven into the ground by the Minister of Postwar Reconstruction and Housing, mr. J. in 't Veld. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: - On a topographical map the city borders of Amsterdam are marked with black lines. In an animation the lines on the map move to show how the city borders moved as the city expanded through the ages. In between are shots of houses and buildings from different periods: a wooden house from the beginning of the 17th century at the Zeedijk; the St. Anthonis City Gate build in 488, now called the Waag; houses in the Jordaan; the ring of canals with the large merchant houses; SHOTS: - blocks of flats; - a company of men look at a pile frame; 01:05 In 't Veld (front left during the side-view).
