Mayor G.E. van Walsum gives an opening speech in the new newsreel theatre for the new Bijenkorf (a department store) at the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. In the presence of architects Breuer and Elzas, he pushes a button and the escalators start moving, after which Van Walsum and his wife go up. Also city shots of the reconstruction of Rotterdam.
