The British tanker British Lantern is stranded at the sandbar of Everinge in the Western Scheldt. After a failed attempt to set the tanker afloat with 16 tugboats, a part of the oil load is pumped over to lighters because there is a change the tanker will break. During the pumping the Belgian lighter Odila is stove in after an explosion and the ship is set aground. A large quantity of oil ends up in the water. During the next the they manage to set the tanker afloat.
