The Minister of Finance, Prof. P. Lieftinck, announces and declares the coming monetary reform on September 26, when all bank notes will be declared invalid; bank accounts will be blocked and the banking secrecy abolished. Also a total registration of possessions will be enforced and every Dutch citizen receives ten guilders in new bank notes in the week until October 3. The government takes these measures to get a hold of the money made by black marketeers and collaborators during the occupation. SHOTS: The speech by Lieftinck is alternated by shots used as an illustration of his argument: a.o. newspaper headlines; bank statements; deposit books; and bank notes.
