European swimming championships for youth in the Plompert in Rotterdam. Alexander Ananev (USSR) wins the breaststroke from András Hargitay (Hungary). Frank Taubert (East Germany) wins the 3m platform diving. The 12-year-old Hansje Bunschoten wins the 400m freestyle for women in a new European record. Anke Rijnders comes in second.
