The world championships ice skating for women in Helsinki. The ice skaters arrive by Finnair plane on the airport in Helsinki. Atje Keulen-Deelstra wins teh 500m from Tuula Vilkas (Finland) and comes in seventh at this distance. In the evening Keulen-Deelstra stops her 1500m race against Ludmilla Titova (USSR) because of a broken skate. On the second day Stien Kaiser wins the 3km from the 26-year-old Nina Statkevitsj (USSR). Statkevitsj comes in first in the overall standings, Kaiser comes in second and Titova third.
